Dental caries is the most common cause of toothache. Dental caries results in tooth decay, which is the damage caused to the tooth structure, resulting in tooth cavities and eventually loss of the tooth if left untreated. When tooth decay involves the innermost layer of the tooth called pulp that contains nerves and blood vessels, severe toothache is the most common symptom and RCT is needed to save the tooth.
